If you’re looking for a fun evening activity for the whole family to enjoy, how about a free movie at your local park? Grab your kids, friends, or a date, plus a blanket, chairs, and refreshments, and enjoy a film under the stars.

Last summer we went to the Clearfield outdoor movie night to see Over The Hedge. We went with six other families and had a really fun time. The kids played and ran around the park until dusk, then we all settled down to watch the movie. (In spite of sweltering heat during the day, the temperature drops quickly when the sun goes down, so be sure to bring a jacket or blanket.)

The movie was played on a giant inflatable screen. There were also vendors on hand, but we brought our own snacks and drinks.

This year we decided to check out the Syracuse movie at Founders Park (1500 South 1900 West). The screen was much smaller, but so was the crowd. There was only one vendor truck, but it was enough for the amount of people there. We got a small popcorn, a cookie, bottled water, and a can of soda, and only spent $2.75…you can’t beat that at the theaters!

On July 3, we’ll be heading back to Clearfield to see Bee Movie at Fisher Park (920 South 1000 East). It’s definitely worth returning for, and I prefer watching the movie on the larger screen. It suits the vastness of the night sky.
