Sensational Sharon Park–Orem

Pavillion “I want to live in the sun and I want to do all the things I never have done! Sunlit mornings do, dah, do, dah, do, keep me from feeling alone…” Okay, okay, so Sharon Park isn’t quite the “Netherlands,” (my warmest regards to Dan Fogelberg) but when it comes to one beautiful park, Sharon can’t be beat!

Just imagine walking along a wonderful path surrounded by towering trees, and a glorious (I’d say perfect) view of Mt. Timpanogos. It is an amazing sight in the morning, afternoon, or evening.

My 19½ month old daughter and I were just there. The sun had barely set and she was all bundled up in her little pink jacket and blanket, strapped in her stroller, and pointing excitedly at every “tree” and fallen red and orange “leaf.” (Yes, I let her take a few!)

We passed the first pavilion and picnic tables complete with a drinking fountain. (No, we didn’t stop to take a drink.) However, the blanket did choose that very moment to get caught in the wheel and fall out of the stroller—and I had to stop and “re-bundle” my little one. (Darned that slippery satin blanket.)

Next was the huge play area equipped with swings, slides, tubes, and bars! Children of all ages were running everywhere in excitement!

I couldn’t help but smile at the park’s wonderful “stage” remembering a few local bands that had performed at this park. (This is also a fun turn off point for bikers and rollerblades alike.)

We walked by the huge trees and said, “Hi!” to a few people running across the huge open field which is perfect for a big soccer or volleyball games. The blanket (again) chose this moment to escape the stroller. (It just couldn’t resist being part of the park’s natural beauty.) My daughter thought this was hilarious and pretty soon we were both laughing.

After we were settled (once again) we started to sing as the night closed in around us. We reached the second eating area complete with barbecues, picnic tables, and shaded by only trees. (I have seen more than one person tucked away in this area engrossed in a book.)

We passed by all of the grassy rolling hills unique only to Sharon Park. There was a man sitting on a smaller hill with his dog. “Getting dark earlier now, isn’t it?” he asked us. We could only agree with him.

We ended our walk by climbing up the biggest of the grassy hills, and with the sketch of the moon between two trees, whispered a “night night” to the sleepy Mount Timpanogos.
