Jenson Nature Park and Fishing Pond–Syracuse, UT

With temperatures hovering in the mid-fifties today and a gorgeous blue sky beckoning us, we decided to head over to Jensen Nature Park in Syracuse. The 20-acre park has nature trails perfect for walking or bike riding, and a 7-acre fishing pond. It’s a really nice place to go if you just want to get outside for some fresh air and exercise, which is exactly what we were looking to do.

The trails at Jensen Nature Park are nicely paved, mostly flat with a few small hills. Some of the trail cuts through pastures and residential areas. I’m not sure how far the trails go, but we walked for about a mile. We crossed the footbridge that spans Jensen Pond, walked around the lake, and then followed the path along the stream. There were a lot of people out doing the same thing, and posing for family photos. There were a few dozen people fishing as well.

The fishing pond is generally stocked with Channel Catfish, Large-Mouth Bass, Bluegill, and Yellow Perch. There are also Rainbow Trout in the spring and fall. There is a 4-fish catch limit per day, and you need a Utah fishing permit. More information is available here: http://www.utahfishinginfo.com/urbanponds/jensennatureparkpond.php

There isn’t really much to tell about Jensen Nature Park, it truly is just a beautiful place to relax, stroll, walk, bike ride, fish, and play. Just keep an eye on the kids because there is a lot of water. There’s no playground equipment but there are covered picnic tables, which can be reserved. Last summer we watched a wonderful fireworks display the weekend before Independence Day.

Check the Syracuse City website for information, events, and directions to Jensen Park.
