Here in the Fork (the American one) we’ve been blessed lately with an abundance of new and fun places to go for eating and entertainment. With national chains like the Olive Garden and Paradise bakery opening in the last couple of months, along with several local eateries, life has been good. This past summer [...]

Pioneer Book - Provo
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. ~Chinese Proverb
Those ever-wise Chinese were on to something. Books are the ever-new, wonderful, paper-bound time machines that take us to untold, uncountable places. My wife thinks there ought to at least be some moderation to the acquisition of them, which is why my [...]
Ogden City’s Christmas Village
Ogden City’s Christmas Village is located on historic 25th Street and Washington Blvd. There are at least 50 cottages (including a replica of Union Station), sponsored by local businesses. The Christmas Village cottages are lit each night from 5 p.m. to midnight until January 1, 2009. Admission is free. This winter or next, definitely put this on your Christmas list of things to do!
The Lights Before (and After!) Christmas–Layton
The “Lights Before Christmas” display in Layton is free, and you can walk through or drive. If you walk wear warm clothing and boots, and a thermos of hot chocolate would be a nice touch. There are more than 100 figures (a whale, elephant, giraffe, mermaid, cars, trains, frogs, Santa and much more!) comprised of about 250,000 lights, plus another 150,000 on the trees. With music drifting through the night air, it’s a mini wonderland worth seeing if you happen to be in the Layton area.
The Nutcracker–Ballet West, Capitol Theatre, SLC
This Nutcracker performance is “pure ballet”–no over-the-top special effects, just beautiful, lyrical dancing from a ballet company we are lucky to have right here in Utah.
Munchkin Sledding at Cherry Hill Park, Orem
We’ve been taking snow gear inventory since last Friday when we learned the first real snow storm of the season was brewing. Jack Frost teased us over the weekend with snow that didn’t stick to the ground. So there was a flurry of excitement when the children woke up to piles of long anticipated thick white [...]
Old World Christmas Market & Ice Skating at the Gallivan Center–Salt Lake City
On the spur of the moment today we decided to check out the Old World Christmas Market at the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City. We had visited the market in Ogden last year and honestly we weren’t very impressed. I thought maybe it would be bigger in SLC but it wasn’t. We were [...]

The Elves & Ride with Mrs. Claus at Gardner Village–West Jordan
A visit to see the elves at Gardner Village is a great way to get into the holiday spirit (as if kids don’t have enough on their own!).
