Going Fishing at Nielsen’s Grove Park–Orem

nielsen's grove park orem, utahOn a frequent basis I feel an urgent need to pull my children out of the rat race of homework and football practice, and allow them some time to just be kids. I want to grab our fishing poles, whistle the Andy Griffith theme song and saunter down the wooded lane. The problem is it takes a time and gasoline to drive to Mayberry. So, while it may not be fly fishing in a sleepy southern town, Nielsen’s Grove Park is a beautiful get-to-in-a-flash alternative that my family and I frequent when we want to relax, cast out a line and stretch out on weed-free green grass. Giant Journaling–Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove

One of my favorite hobbies is a thing called giant journaling, which I was introduced to by a couple of my roommates two years ago. It’s exactly what it sounds like—a giant journal is a big black sketchbook with blank pages in it, and what you do in it is a combination of journaling and scrapbooking. I used to do scrapbooking, but I’m such a perfectionist that it took me hours and hours just to finish one small page, and I was always nervous about messing something up. Giant journaling is a much more casual way to document memories and express yourself creatively. Read the rest of Giant Journaling–Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove »

Provo and Orem Public Libraries

My husband and I love going to the public libraries in Provo and Orem. We’ll generally go to sit and read, check out books and movies, or set up camp with our laptops and use the free wireless internet. (The internet is accessible to anyone who has a library card, and if you don’t have one you can ask at the front desk and they’ll give you a temporary guest account.) Big Springs Park-Provo Canyon

big springs parkMy husband wanted to go on a date this weekend. We love walking in the mountains, so he planned for us to go up into the canyon and walk the trails at Vivian Park. He also knows that I love taking pictures, but that I haven’t done it in a long time because the batteries were dead in our camera and we were too lazy to replace them. So he replaced the batteries for me, and we went up there with the express purpose of taking pictures of nature. We actually kept going past Vivian Park up to Big Springs National Park, which is just about ten minutes farther up the road. Read the rest of Big Springs Park-Provo Canyon »
